It’s high time I actually blogged some photos, don’t you think? I will admit – blogging is probably my least favorite part of the process….while I love sharing favorite images from my sessions, getting them re-sized and uploaded can be daunting at the end of a long day! Nonetheless, I will do my best this summer to keep my blog updated with new images!

That being said, let’s start with the super adorable H. Family. I get the distinct honor of living down the street from these guys, and when Spring hit and the trees were in bloom, they were game for a quick, impromptu session at sunset with me so that I could take advantage! It was a race against the setting sun, but we made it happen and I can’t wait to see some of these on their wall very soon!

“Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.”  ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

The above saying hung on the wall of our various bathrooms throughout my childhood. Did I understand it’s meaning then? No…but I do now. Like many things, knowledge comes with age and at some point you realize that the harder you chase happiness, the more elusive it seems to be. Having just celebrated my 32nd birthday yesterday, I know a thing or two about age 😉

This image represents happiness for me both because of the happy moment that was captured, but also because I was happy when I took it. Photography can be endlessly frustrating for me at times. I strive so hard to find that happy place where I nail every shot and book every session that I have moments where it seems almost simpler to just give up.  Then a moment inevitably comes when it’s just me and a moment and a camera and I’m not thinking about anything else…and I’m happy. That is every reason why I keep going.

Wow, spring has sprung with a vengeance and that means it’s time for some Spring mini sessions! Last year I held my first round of “Mommy and Me” mini sessions and I absolutely loved being able to capture some wonderful moments between mommies and their little ones. As a mom myself, I know how few and far between those kinds of photos can be. Oftentimes, we are the camera holders and not the ones on the other side. This year I want to honor motherhood again with my mini sessions. Maybe you’re a busy mom who wants some current photos with your little (or not so little) loves, or maybe you’re a mom with a bundle on the way who wants to capture the joy of your first Mother’s Day! Or maybe you just even want some great pictures of yourself for a change….well, this is a great opportunity and at a GREAT price.  Short and to the point, these sessions last 25 minutes and I typically proof 6-8 edited images for you to choose from. My pricing for these sessions includes a $70 purchase credit that goes straight towards your purchase of prints, collections or digital files – no more being limited to just a few prints or a few sizes – you really can order whatever your heart desires!  Full price list available upon request, just shoot me an email through my site here or you can even message me through my facebook page now (click on the facebook link in my menu to get there.) Spots are VERY limited unfortunately, so first-come-first-serve. Payment of full fee is due in order to reserve your spot.

AND…if you’re a Dad looking for a great gift for Mom, I think you might have just found it. I know I would be thrilled if my husband set up a session for me for Mother’s Day, so don’t hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing who I get to work with this year!

I mentioned my 52 week project in a previous post so I figured I”d share a recent photo from it. I decided at the beginning of the year that I would commit to one photo of my son weekly to be collected at the end of the year and put into a book for him. My only criteria was that it told a story. How easy is it for us to forget the little moments that happen along the way as the year progresses? Too easy. My son is growing up fast (as they all do) and while I’m pretty good about taking pictures, I’m never really good at DOING anything with them. Hopefully this will change that!

So here is my most recent photo for last week. It may be entirely mommy goggles speaking, but I’m in love with it. I’m pretty sure it’s my favorite so far! I have yet to pinpoint what it is about it I love, It’s just so ‘him’. Had he been smiling or looking at the camera, it wouldn’t have the same effect on me. He was taking a momentary break from jumping on our bed to adjust his pirate hat (a favorite of many fun hats he likes to wear). The overhead lights were off and I had the blinds open a little, so there was just a small pocket of light falling across him. To prove how dim our house is, my settings for this shot were ISO 3200 F2.5 SS 1/160 (could have been lower, but he had been moving around prior to this shot and I hadn’t readjusted my settings.)

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings for my little project! Thanks for reading!

12 pictures on the twelfth day of each month in 2012 – that’s the 12-12-12 project started by a group of photografriends….and I have decided to join in! Sometimes it’s hard to remember to keep up with photos of your own life and family when things get busy, and although I’m not making any promises to stick to this (I’m 100% dedicated to a 52 week project of my son already), I think this is a fun way to not only share a little bit about our lives, but also keep up to date with what is going on with each other!

And so, my first 12-12-12 post! I didn’t partake last month due to my website not being quite complete:)

I took these photos just this past week when we finally got our second snow. Yes – second of the whole Winter thus far! And it’s February! We have had such a crazy mild Winter, and while I’m perfectly fine with that, my son is not. Like his Daddy, he LOVES the snow. Asks for it daily even. So while we only really got an inch or so and it was melted by late afternoon, my son and I spent the morning enjoying it while it was here.

itching to get outside!

snow = love

watch out for the snowballs!

our outdoor cat Archie had to get in on the fun

the melting has began...

With the snow nearly melted away, it was time to return indoors!

The usual play room destruction

All tuckered out...
