I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Mr. T at his newborn session. It’s amazing how quickly he’s grown into this sweet, bright-eyed little guy full of personality! For his 6 month milestone Mom and Dad chose to do an studio simplicity session for him and brought lots of ideas to try! Between their ideas and my ideas, we ended up with some of the most adorable shots I’ve gotten from this age group so far. I absolutely love every single one of them! My simplicity package works beautifully for milestone sessions as the 30 minutes of shooting time is just long enough to get us some great shots without the session dragging on long enough for the baby or child to get bored or too fussy for us. Mr. T was quite the calm little dude. He flashed us some super sweet smiles during the first setup or two, then gave us a few super serious shots that really showcased those blue inquisitive eyes of his. I absolutely love this age group! I get asked all the time if newborn sessions give me baby fever and the answer is no. I remember all too well how challenging the newborn age can be, but after spending time with a 6 month old? Absolutely. Baby fever all the way. They’re so sweet and chubby and really settling into their personalities at this age. I love it!

Check out my favorites from Mr. T’s session and if you love them like we do, let me know in the comments! Parents – don’t forget that I do offer a discount on 6 month and 1 year milestone sessions when you book your child’s newborn session with me!

Meet sweet (and sleepy!) Baby K! After such a beautiful maternity session (found here) I knew I’d have some shoes to fill when it came time for her studio newborn session. Mom and Dad came with a few very special ideas for posing (including one to commemorate Miss K’s late Grandfather) and lucky for us this sweet baby girl felt like snoozing for 90% of our session which made things very easy on us! I absolutely love each and every image and I’m excited to share them on my blog finally! Here are my favorites from this awesome newborn session.

On to another favorite maternity session! Due to the chilly weather we decided to use my studio for the first half of this session. It was a little bit of trial by fire as I hadn’t utilized the studio for adult/maternity sessions up until that point, but I absolutely adore the images we created! For the second half of the session we braved the frigid cold outdoors just long enough to mix things up with some amazing shots among the cedars. Julie was a gorgeous mama-to-be (even while shivering!) and I can’t wait to show off her sweet baby K’s newborn session in my next post. For now enjoy some favorites from her beautiful belly session!

Digging back in the time capsule just a bit to show off this sweet lifestyle maternity session from last winter. I will probably say this a lot on this blog, but I love maternity sessions. I love that we can do them at the client’s home, in the studio or outdoors. They are so versatile and it all boils down to the look the client is going for! In this case, it was blustery cold outside (and my studio was not yet available) so we got to work in the comfort of the client’s home for a lifestyle session that was just perfect for them. I did bring along one solid backdrop as Mom really wanted a couple photos of big sister-to-be as well during our session, otherwise we shot in their lovely well-lit living room as well as the baby’s nursery which added a very personal touch. Traditional (posed) newborn sessions are very popular and for good reason – who can resist those sweet squishy newborn details and poses that we capture? They are truly the types of images that most people have to come to equate with “newborn photography.”  There is another side, though that is equally sweet and amazing and that is the ever-growing popularity of lifestyle photography. When the M. family contacted me about their newborn session, their baby girl was already past the 2 week mark that I feel most comfortable with in terms of scheduling a posed newborn session. Instead I proposed the idea of a lifestyle session and they agreed it sounded like a great plan for capturing some natural images of their newly formed family of three! Shortly thereafter I arrived at their home with nothing with me but my camera equipment and a handful of newborn wraps and headbands. Any photographer that has filled their car to the brim with newborn props knows the freedom of that feeling! And because we didn’t need baby to be fully asleep for every photo, the session topped out at about half the length of my typical studio newborn sessions.  In the end we were able to not only capture their family in a beautiful way, but also incorporate items (and pets!) that were meaningful to their family as well as some of their carefully-picked nursery decor. It was after editing this session that I officially added the option of a lifestyle newborn session to my packages. I enjoyed the experience and the images we created so much I thought it would be wonderful to offer an alternative to a posed studio session for those who enjoy the lifestyle approach or have a baby that is past the “ideal” age for a newborn session.

Here are some of my favorites!
