Sweet Pickle Pictures » Providing family, child, newborn, maternity and studio photography for Manhattan, Kansas and the surrounding areas.

Baby Ben was the first newborn client to be photographed in my new studio space! When I sent my newborn questionnaire out before our session, his family responded back that they liked images with a more lifestyle or natural feel to them. While lifestyle shots are something I love and relied on when shooting newborns in their own home, I have to admit it had me worried at first as to how we could make those images happen in studio. It definitely forced me to think outside the box a little bit and in the end, I was really thankful it did! The outcome was a unique mixture of studio and candid shots that I LOVE. We even managed to step outdoors for a few family photos of the newly acquainted family of five. The sun was a little bright, but we made the best of it. Here’s my favorites from this baby boy’s portrait debut!

I absolutely LOVE when I get to watch my client’s children grow up. I got to meet and photograph Cayson for the first time when he was 6 months old, and it was such a treat to get to photograph him again in celebration of his one year birthday! Originally we had scheduled a studio session for this milestone, but this cutie wasn’t loving the idea of being on a backdrop without Mom and Dad, so we stepped outside for a few shots instead. He was every bit as serious and every bit as cute as he was during his 6 month session. This boy definitely makes me work for those little smiles, but that’s ok because I like a challenge!  Here’s some favorites from his simplicity session:)

I feel a little bit like I’m in a way back machine, but it’s time to reach back and pluck a few favorite sessions from the last 6 months or so (YES, it’s been that long since I’ve blogged a session. Shame on me!)  We’ll start with this sweetie from the end of 2012! Baby Eva’s newborn photos were originally planned as a First 48 session, but due to some complications at the time of her birth, that just wasn’t going to work out! Instead, we went with Plan B and did a traditional newborn session at her home and captured some really gorgeous images!  Whether she was wide awake or asleep, she was just as sweet as they come. Here are my favorites from her session!

Some days, you just don’t want your picture taken.

It’s been a while since I’ve participated in an I Heart Faces challenge, but when I saw that the theme this month was for the best face of 2012, THIS face immediately came to mind. It belongs to the son of a good friend and neighbor, and thanks to having seen my camera a few too many times, he has developed a rare case of PCS by proxy.  (For those of you who are not photographers, PCS is short for “photographer’s child syndrome”…the common disorder in which your child develops an allergic reaction to your camera from having it put in their face a few (million) too many times.) Doesn’t he have the cutest pout you’ve ever seen?

Head on over to http://iheartfaces.com to participate this month or see more ‘best faces’ entries!
